Originals are players that were on opening day rosters in 1997 but were not drafted in the Elite Draft or the 1997 draft. Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Swoopes fit in this category. Drafted players go with the year they are drafted even if they didn't appear until a later season. Tamika Catchings goes with 2001. The 1997 Elite Draft is included in 1997.

All Stars include those that missed the game due to injury and those selected to replace them. USA is for the games between WNBA select teams and Team USA, like The Game at Radio City in 2004. Appeared Initial is the number and percent of draftees who made appearances the year they were drafted. Appeared Eventual is the number and percent of draftees who made appearances at any time. Players have debuted as long as seven years after being drafted.

1997-2002 were four round drafts. 2003-present have been three rounds. Elite draft was two rounds.
